If it's posted, it's law.
What you're asking is, can you drive in the shoulder past cars in the right lane to make a right turn. The answer is NO....but it also depends on what your laws are regarding right turns. In NV, you can only move over into the shoulder 100 ft prior to making a right turn. |

Well laws may vary from state to state, BUT if there are NOT two clearly marked lanes then the road is considered to only have two lanes of travel. each in the opposite direction. For the road, street, avenue, lane whatever it is is NOT clearly marked by dividing lines then there is only one lane for travel in that direction. So if you get caught you could get a ticket for passing improperly, as well as operating to endanger the lives / safety of the motoring public. This is not to mention the pedestrian (foot) traffic. The shoulder of the road is as a rule used for parking and or vehicles that are broken down. I would suggest that you give this some thought and use EXTREME CARE & CAUTION if you do decide to pass on the right in order to make a right turn. Also I did not mention, that if the vehilce you are passing to make the right turn decides that he/she wants to turn right as well, OH well accidents do happen but do you need the added grief? |

It is only legal when the line breaks. If there is a solid line then you can not drive on the shoulder. Most likely 100 feet away from the turn is allowed. |

The shoulder of the road is reserved for emergency use only. If your caught making a right hand turn from the berm you can be ticketed. |

I live in central NY, and it's a state law in most places in regard to turning from the shoulder. The main reason is because when you turn off of a shoulder, you are possibly in the right side blind spot if you have anyone in front of you. You can check it out yourself at http://www.dmv.org/ny-new-york/department-motor-vehicles.php |

Yes. Shoulders are meant for cars to use for break downs. The lanes are for moving traffic. |
