I can't answer the legal issue - but the laws of physics are the same everywhere, making it unsafe for a child under 12 years old to be in the front seat. Backseat provides the most protection in a crash. Also, a 5 year old needs to be in either a 5 point harness or a booster seat. |

No, they must be in the correct type of child restraint though. It is illegal for a child under 3 to be in a rear facing restraint with an active airbag fitted to the passenger side.
Child restraints must be used until child is 12 years old or 1.35m in height, whichever comes first.
It is the drivers responsibilty to ensure that anyone under 14 is using the correct restraint or seat belt. After 14 they are responsible for themselves. |

No it's not illegal. It just goes against safety precautions. I was once pulled over bc my taillight was out and I had a baby in a carseat in the front with me because there it was a truck without a backseat. The cop didn't say anything to me about it. |

no it is not ilegal,
contrary to popular belief the front seat is the safest option for a forward facing child seat with a 4 point harness
though it is recomended by manufacturers to turn the air bag off for rear facing seats |

in France illegal under 10, and the UK child seat/booster regulations might apply as well |

No it isn't. All you need is the correct type of child seat for the child of that age, have the child seat facing the rear, and the airbags turned OFF. If the airbags cannot be turned of then it is forbidden to have a child that age in the seat. |
