Is it illegal to put your feet on the dashboard while driving?

Sex and chocolate is overated.

It's not necessary illegal, but just dangerous(especially for the driver).
Anything could happen in the blink of an eye and you would have no control over it, putting you at further risk for more serious injury than necessary within a car accident. For your safety and for anyone elses at that matter, just stick with your feet on the floor, where they should be.

if you didn't think it was illegal, why worry about the cop? Of course it's illegal, and it's considered reckless driving, and it's also stupid !!!!!!!!!

"careless and reckless" is illegal. if you were observed by an officer engaging in behavior that met "careless and reckless" criteria, in his opinion, then you'd get ticketed. the judge would decide if you're guilty or not.

Well if you are a passenger I don't think so, because I'd probably be on death row if it was.

However if you read the question wrong as if to mean, while you are driving. Then I gotta say it might be a little difficult without cruise control.

I would not recommend it just in case some type of debris hit you the impact of the object probably wouldn't feel too good. Also have you ever had a bee or a wasp fly into your car while driving ?

I don't think it says so to the letter of the law, but personally I can't imagine being able to drive safely that way. I tried to prop my feet up on the dash as a *passenger* after reading on here from several people how comfy and pleasant that was, and I thought *that* was extremely uncomfortable, indeed pretty much had to fold myself up to get them there. I couldn't even begin to control a car that way! But I suppose it may depend on the model car too, the cars I sometimes get a ride in (I don't have one myself) have quite upright seats and all.

Also I think it would put you at much greater risk in case of an accident. Now I know some people say that about the bare feet only -that I think is exaggerated, because many types of footwear provide little or no protection either, and also in summertime we drive with much of our skin (legs, arms) totally bare which leaves those areas exposed to cuts in an accident as well, yet no one ever mentions that as an unacceptable risk! No doubt we are at somewhat less risk from cuts in winter when wrapped up in three layers of clothing, but that's no reason to wrap up on 'body armour' every time when driving. However, when you put your leg up so far I do believe the risk of breaking it will be *much* greater than when seated in the position car seats are designed and tested for.

For the driver yes but not for the passenger but at the same time it would really hurt if you were in an accident and the airbag went off.
