The existence of an MOT is no guarantee of a car's roadworthyness, as the fact that a first MOT isn't due for another 30 months is no guarantee of the same. If the police see your car & have doubts as to whether it's roadworthy, they'll call in VOSA for a thorough examination, and they'll just throw the book at you - you could have several offences on one car, each with a fine & points, so one stop could lose you your licence or put you behind bars. |

Never mind legal - is it safe!
Imagine this... you're driving along within the speed limit and something happens that means you need an emergency stop. How do you think the car will behave? I imagine that it will pull to one side, then you'll correct it (probably over correct) and it will swerve the other way and possibly spin. You MIGHT get away with this at low speeds if there's loads of room, otherwise you'll be in Accident and Emergency (along with whoever you hit).
If this car is only 6 months old I'd take it back to where I bought it and make a big fuss - unless of course you've bumped it, or bashed a wheel to cause the crabbing. I would guess a car this new would have fully comp insurance. If you've damaged the car then you'd best make a claim to get it put right. |

Because something has an MOT (or doesn't need one) it doesn't automatically mean that it's legal to drive. If it would fail an MOT it becomes illegal...
The chances of getting stopped are quite low though and the cost of the police trying to prove that you knew it would have failed an MOT in order to give you a small fine means that it's never done.
I'd get to know a tyre fitter. |
