1. It's illegal to drive a vehicle with a insecure load.
2. It's illegal to drive an overloaded vehicle.
3. It's illegal to drive a vehicle with an overly protruding load, i.e.sticking 10 feet out the back or side.
But it's not illegal to drive a car with the boot open and tied down, no. |

its to do with carrying a safe load. taxis regularly drive with the boot open, provided ithe load is secure, and the boot is tied down, then it isnt a problem.
ask at the police station. |

It's legal, but the boot must be firmly tied and if anything is protruding it should be clearly visible ie. you should attach a red flag or similar to ensure that other drivers can see it. |

yes, it is legal provided the load is secured properly and you have a side view mirror on both sides of vehicle |

This is definately illegal on a motorway as smaller items may fall from the boot on to the roadway causing a serious or even fatal accident. |

If something is protruding beyond the length of the car, it must be marked, ie a warning triangle or red material etc... so other motorists do not run into you. |
