Is it legal to drive in a business' empty parking lot?

i just got my permit and i want to go someplace with my dad to get some practice. is this legal?

Just stay out of the parking lots.
1. Police could think you were casing the place to rob it.
2. It is usually permissible in school parking lots as they sometimes have the cones set up for driver training.
3. Parking lots owned by businesses are private property. You could be charged with trespassing!

with dad and a permit you can drive any where so if he wanted to you could drive east coast to west coast with a permit and a driver over 21

Since that has been the traditional training ground for aspiring drivers, I would think not - just look for any signs that say otherwise.

If you have your permit it should be legal. But i would talk to your local police department. Just to make sure. Because im a Canadian police officer. And i dont want to impose to you that its legal when in fact it might now.

Yes you can use private business lots. First look for any posted signs saying not to do so. Better there than the streets with traffic until you are better at driving. Good luck!
Some businesses will post - for business only. The mall's lots have lots of space.
