drive a used car 2000 miles [i.e. from cleveland to naples and back], what if you get it checked out first?

Depends on the car. Is this a used car that you've recently purchased, and don't really know a lot about? If so, have a mechanic check it out. If it gets a clean bill of health, take the trip.

I go from central NC to Ohio on Lake Erie every year at Thanksgiving to visit the in-laws, in a 25-year-old Mercedes that currently has 368,000 miles on it. The trip's somewhere around 1300 miles round-trip. I know the car, had it for years, and it does fine every year. I have complete & total faith in it. Just depends on the car and what kind of condition it's in....

Hard to tell, depends on the condition of the vehicle. A new car might breakdown for all you know. If its been properly maintained it should be ok, if you cant recall the date of last oil change you have a problem.

Thomas A
really it depends on how worn the car is. still if you have it checked out it should be fine, maybe be sure to have some sort of communication

Alex E
If you are not familiar with the vehicle...
Not having it checked out is suicide!

Aussie
Who says its not? Get a basic safety/mechanical check done and go your hardest. Based on the mechanics advise that is.

Happy driving.

josh M
all depend on the car i have a 500 car that would go just fine. make sure you check all the fluid

formely henrysol
even if its fully checked out something can still go wrong since you are going to be driving roughly for 24 hours

No. buy a bs car that's aloud to break.

If you get a complete bumper to bumper check out done on it you will be okay as long as repair anything that they find wrong with it.......drive safe.
