Well, people do a lot of things, whether they're safe or not.
Is a 3 year old in the front seat of a pickup legal? YES
Is a 3 year old in the front seat of a pickup safe? sort of
WHY? B/c every child is safest in the backseat of a vehicle. I woudln't say the child would UNsafe in the front of the truck, but rather the child is safeEST in the backseat of a regular vehicle. Small trucks are notoriously unsafe, mostly b/c of the little crumple one they offer from having such small cabs. For a child this can be deadly. If at all possible, minimize the amount of time the child spends in the vehicle. My stepdad has a small pickup truck, and b/c of this he almost never takes the kids anywhere in his vehicle, he will use my car or my mom's SUV. But if you MUST put the child there, make sure he or she is in a 5 point harness seat (Graco Nautilus is a great one to check out if she has outgrown her seat already). And if it has an airbag it must be shut off. if its an older truck, pre 2000, then you will have to take it to a mechanic to get the airbag shutoff. The child can not ride there at all if the airbag is on. If there is a middle seatbelt, you could attempt installing the child's seat there so she has more protection in side impact crashes.

Its not safe but you can do it if this is your only form of transportation.
1. turn off the airbag if possible.
2. push the seat as far back as possible. |

No its not safe. The reason why is because if you are in a car accident you will risk the life of your child being that you only have room enough for one person. Now as the first person said if its your only means of transportation, then you can do it. But just know that its not safe. If I were you I'd look into getting another vehicle if you have the funds to do so. But if not, then stick with it. |
