We have a 1984 dolphin motorhome and we wanted to know if we can run our propane heater while we are driving down the road and if not how do we heat the motor home while driving?

My wife and I rented a 30 foot mobile home for a trip a couple of years ago. Before we drove out of the rental yard lot, a technicial lit the pilot and started the fridge to cooling.
I assume that meant that it was legal to run it while driving.
As far as heating up the coach section, I would have just turned on the vehicle's heater, the same as I would any other vehicle. This heater uses the heat generated by the engine, rather than any combustive system. No need to turn on the propane heater until reaching the destination. The engine is going to produce heat, anyway, so why waste propane when the motor provides free heat? |

Yes you can run the propane while driving,just remember to shut it off before pulling into a gas station to get gas.I have to run my travel trailer fridge on propane while driving down the road and never had a problem with the flame going out.But doesn't the vehicle provide enough heat for the coach while driving?Also check the fridge,it might be able to run off the vehicle electrical system.Does your RV have a generator,you can run the fridge on this while driving.It is not illegal to drive with the propane on,but turn it off before pulling into a gas station and some tunnels and bridges may require you to turn it off before you can cross them. |

run ur propane heater? i would just go to some motor home place and ask the guy there. but DONT call them cuz the ppl that pick up usually have no clue about anything. they barely even no where they work. |

The propane appliances (fridge, furnace and water heater) are designed to draw the air needed for combustion with propane from the outside and to vent any exhaust to the outside.
The outside covers should be designed to prevent wind from blowing out any pilot light or the flame once ignited.
So, operation while on the road should not be a problem.

That isn't a good idea. In the event of an accident it could cause an explosion. And I'm not totally certain but I think it's illegal and falls under contributory negligence. |
