My sister had difficulty mastering the gears, so she swapped to an automatic car and passed her test. Her driving license is endorsed so that she can only drive automatic cars. If she wanted to drive a manual, then she would have to retake her teat in a manual car. |

Yes! totally possible. BUT, if you take your test in an automatic, you are then not permitted to drive a manual car |

You didn't say where you are taking this test, but if you're in the USA, it doesn't matter! We do not discriminate between automatic and manual transmissions. You can take the test with either transmission, and be licensed to drive both! |

Yes you can have lessons in an Automatic Car. And if you take your actual test in a Automatic Car, you can ONLY drive Automatic Cars when you pass. |

my husband is a driving instructor have checked with him and you can ONLY drive an automatic car if thats what you take your test in. Go for a manual you will soon get the hang of it and then you can choose. My car is automatic but I would hate to be restricted. |

I think it depends where you are take your test. I live in Kentucky. I took my test in a automatic & passed & I'm issued to drive in a stick shifted or auto.. Your test is passed for all class D's
Unless you are talking about you CDL's or motorcyle test
Different class require differnent test & vechiles. |

Some states must be whacky. I've had licenses in Ca., IL, TN, MS, and TX and none had any restriction for the type of tranny. Most of those I took the test in an automatic. |

Yes you can take driving lessons in an automatic car and take an 'automatic' driving test. However, you would need to retake the test if you need to drive a manual car.
I was going to take automatic lessons, however my current driving instructor persuaded me to at least have a go at driving manual. I did and I've found it to be easier than I thought.
Why don't you book a couple of lessons in a manual car and see how you get on (if you haven't already). |

Yes it is possible to take your lessons in an automatic car. You do not have to take to retake your lessons to drive a standard car. I don't know where some people com up with that theory they are wrong. |
