Is it possible to be done for speeding, driving in reverse?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it possible to be done for speeding, driving in reverse?

I didn't think it was as the speedometer doesn't indicate a speed in the reverse gear, my wife disagrees, of course!

Your not clocked by what your speedometer says its what the radar gun says. So yes of course. Not to mention careless and reckless on top of that . Failure to use do care etc.

If you're driving that fast in reverse, it's not a ticket you should be contemplating, but a re-assessment of basic safety on the public highways. I would heartily recommend a retest and a new copy of the highway code at the very least. Perhaps some counselling would be in order too, if not for you then for your poor wife.

AussieGal777
yes, speeding is speeding!

i dont think u could go fast tho in reverse

desert camel
yes u can...but if you reverse for any more than necessary you are breaking the law...

S Csparky
yes that is if your gear box don't blow up first,!!

yes. you can be done for reckless driving aswell.

Of course you could get done for speeding in reverse if you're going fast enough, and I'd imagine you'd also get done for careless driving too. Incidentally, a car's speedo usually will work in reverse, and in some automatics where the reverse gear ratio is similar to the first gear ratio, which is often about the same as second ion a manual, it's possible to do 60-70mph backwards!
Go on, try it, but don't come crying to me when you're on the bus for a year because they've taken your licence away!

It does indicate the speed, you're just not going fast enough. Go a little faster and you'll see.

The law doesn't care if the speedometer indicates ANYTHING. If the vehicle is traveling over the speed limit, the driver can be cited.

Do you really believe that if the speedometer reads zero mph that the car is not moving?

DIXIE
Yes you will be and possibly other driving violations as well.
I have driven a military 4 wheel drive vehicle (it had a transfer box, giving the same number of gears backwards as forwards) in reverse at over 30miles per hour , however this was on a disused runway and it was stupid really. I was aware any steering lock applied would result in the "ferret scout car" probably rolling over but I was young and I won the bet, still a stupid thing to do. The speedometer (mechanical) definitely did not show mph.

Of course you will still be done for speeding even though you are going backwards you are still over the limit. I don't think that this tie your wife disagreed to be awkward.

Yes and also reckless driving.....

"...Done for speeding..." Not quite sure what you mean here. If you mean ticketed, yes, you can be ticketed for speeding in reverse as well as reckless driving. It doesn't matter what YOUR speedometer says, it's the cops with the radar guns that matter.
