Is it possible to control the ignition system of a vehicle in traffic?

we need to control ignition of vehicles in traffic using automated transmission. we believe that by stopping vehicles when the vehicles are stopped at red signal would minimise the pollution as well as the amount of fuel consumption. we need a system that would completely stop the engine when the traffic light falls red andturn on the engine a few seconds before the light turns green.

I doubt you would save anything because overcoming the inertia of stopping and starting the engine will probably use more fuel than leaving it running.

Stopping and starting the engine every time you come to a light? Imagine what it is going to be like for someone who lives in a big city? Dude, the cars will need new starters every week.

The major manufacturers are already planning to put this system into cars. That was announced in a few auto publications months ago. If a vehicle is at a dead stop the motor will be shut off until the brake is released. Quite a few variations of this system have been tested and more than one manufacturer has stated that they have systems that already meet governments safety regulations.
And these will not be hybrid systems. They are designed for regular gas engined automobiles.

Buy a Toyota Prius, all this is already done for you, the gas engine shuts off every time the car stops, gets under way on electric power.
If you mean turning off other peoples vehicles, that would have legal implications, as well as you dont know the state of repair of the vehicles involved, stopping the ignition of 1000's of vehicles may mean lots of them may fail to restart, the resulting congestion and traffic chaos would negate any pollution saving you would realize.
Get involved in Hybrids and electric vehicles, once there is a significant number of these on the road, pollution from idling will be less.

This would never work because what it would do is cause more deaths because what would you do if you needed to move quickly out of the way of either a fast approaching vehicle from behind you or an emergency vehicle.....
