Is it safe?

To drive with the exhaust emission light on? It came on this morning! I had people in the back seat which I dont usually have! Could it be the extra weight?

Well I have to drive about 7 miles home this evening from work, do you think this will be ok! I will take it to the garage in the morning!

it is safe to drive with the light on as long as you are taking it to a shop for repairs
however, if the light is FLASHING, don't drive it because you could cause major damage to the engine and it should be towed
if it is not flashing, just drive it to your mechanic as soon as you can

It's safe to drive home and the extra weight didn't cause it. It means the oxygen sensor is not giving the correct reading to the ecm (computer). The oxygen sensor or catalitic converter is probably bad.

Nothing to do with weight,check your oil levels or it may only be an electrcal fault, if there are no smell of fumes it should be ok to drive, but seek advise from your local garage "ASAP" and good luck.

you should probably run it by a shop and get it tested with a computer diagnostic check, it might just be a false sensor, depending on how old the car is, that's a very typical thing to happen..

you can cause irreversible damage to your engine, and if you get pulled over, well.

probably best to take the bus..
