My 1998 Toyota Camry is loaded with very heavy boxes (i.e. books, record albums, CDs, etc). The car sits much lower to the ground, naturally. Do you think I will be fine to drive it for a 1,000 mile trip?

Your car has gross vehicle weight capacity. I don't know the numbers but the point of that rating is that exceeding that load is not safe. The car is not designed to operate when overloaded.
And, it makes no difference how long a trip it is. If the car is dangerously overloaded, something could go wrong at the first intersection where the light suddenly turns yellow, or the first left or right turn, or, simply going down the street. It could go wrong at ANY time, like the first 50 feet, or at nine hundered, ninety nine and three quarters miles. |

nope.. your doing the suspension no good and every vehicle has a maximum load, esp vans etc.. that includes the weight of the car, in that measurement.. |

Well if you got in a wreck that stuff would probably hurt or kill you if something got slung at you. and I would think it would affect the tires? |

Not very safe to do this at all.........
Additional load causes additional tire wear. Weight also puts strain on many other components, including suspension, brakes, drive train, etc.
The most immediate effect of overloading is deteriorating handling. If you have added that much weight to your car, it's probably above the usual center of mass.
