No it is not safe.......if something happens you only have one way to go......and that is down.

Well, considering that natural disasters happen more often in the day than at night, since day takes up more hours giving it more time for things like earthquakes to occur, you are actually safer at night than any other time. But if you mean creepers and stuff then I guess its like being stuck in an alley, there's only two ways to go.
