Yes it is safe to use it in a car during a thunderstorm, but only if you are not driving. As the first person mentioned it is a hazard while driving because it is a distraction. But the reason why its safe if you are sitting still is because, you are in a car, and cars have rubber tires. So the rubber insulates the car and it repels the electric current. If the tires weren't there then yes you would be in harms way because without the tires the car is nothing but a giant lightning rod. So yes it is safe but the best thing to do is get out of harms way and get inside if you can. |

It's actually been proven that it's not safe to use a hand phone at all in the car.
You won't get struck by lightning, but the distraction alone will get you killed.
Something like 4 or 5 times as disabling as being intoxicated.
So take that into consideration. |

what he said shouldnt use it at all rainning woul dbe even worse time to use it.... but as for a storm it wouldnt hurt any thing til you run off the road |

No, you are still using the lines on those poles. Just because a wire doesn't come from the house make it safer, and what about the other person on a landline phone, those wires can strike there too. It's still unsafe.
