Actually they usually are called "Bull-bars", and yes, they are totally legal. There are always moves by loony leftie people in cities to get them banned. Melbourne cops this all the time, but I think they should remain legal: a lot of us do country driving, and bars have saved me several times: 'Roos, Wallaby's, Wombats, and the odd cow or horse or large dog: all are too common on Aussie roads, even quite close to town.
NOTE: a bull-bar will not help it you hit a tree, or at least not much: they also must be compatible with any SRS system in the vehicle, such as airbags. It must also be said that such bars are dangerous to pedestrians, but I also think that said pedestrians should take appropriate care too! |

They aren't bull bars. In Australia they are called 'roo (kangaroo) bars and not only are they legal, they are almost a prerequisite in the outback. The blighters are everywhere. Australians hit more kangaroos than we hit deer. And there are a lot fewer Australians than there are North Americans. |

Yes, 'roo bars are still legal, and usually now aluminium, but if fitted to new vehicles they must be tuned to allow for the air bags. Retro fitting to a vehicle with air bags is not allowed, unless it is a factory approved bar and done in a dealership with air bag tuning facilities. |

im sure they are. i live in the states and my front a rear bumpers are made from steel tubing when the last lady rear ended me it made her air bags go off. i only had a small dent on my bumper |
