Is it ture that if you are sitting at a red light and you take your foot off the gas petel?

Is it true that in New York, if you are sitting at a red light and you take your fooot off the gas petel and creep just a little bit, and then put your foot back on the breaks, is it coincidered runnning a red light?

First of all, it's a pedal, not a petel. And they're brakes, not breaks. And you shouldn't have your foot on the gas when stopped, it belongs on the BRAKE PEDAL.

If you cross the stop line then yes, you have run the red light. If you don't cross the stop line then you haven't. And it's everywhere, not just in NY.

huh? you take your foot -off- the -gas- and your car goes forward? I'm going to assume you meant "brake".

In the very most technical sense, you are running a red light when you cross the white line at the end of your lane while the light is yellow or red. Yes, that's right, you can run a yellow light. You're only supposed to enter the intersection when the light is green, the yellow is so that cars already halfway across can clear out.

So, if you creep, and go over that marker, you can get busted. But it would take the most anal-retentive, or vindictive cop ever to write that ticket.

I have not lived in New York but usually you need to cross a line. That may be the line that extends from the edge of the road perpendicular to you. This is an imaginary line of course. Even then you may only be obstructing and intersection.

I bet the vehicle code is on-line. You have a good governor on New York. I donated money to him. A good guy

I don't see why it would be. If you're still behind the white line then you're good. Lord only knows what wacky laws are on the books though.

?
Running a red light is ignoring the red light and driving through the intersection before the light has turned green.

no. not true at all. im from ny.

Mayor Adam West
Not from NY, but if that's true... That's just stupid.

Lov'n IT!
done that many times in New York, but never gotten in trouble. I don't think it's a law.
