Is it, will it be safe with no ABS?

I drive a van to transport disabled children. The ABS is out and boss refuses to get it fixed. Because it's equipped with ABS and it's out, will it and is it still very safe to use in transporting?
It makes weird noises too and if I say anything, I'm told my "imagination" is too much when it comes to faults with the vehicle. :-) I do have a great imagination, but I'm sure not using it for faults in the safety of transporting kids.

it isnt as safe for it to not work it is called Anti Lock Brake System if it isnt working when or if you hit the brake real hard it will lock up the tires if you have ever had to hit the brakes in a car with ABS you will feel the brake peadle pulsate the ABS is keeping the car from siding bottom line if the ABS isnt working the van wont stop as quik and can also cause you to lose control by locking up the front tires hope this helps you out some hun

really brakes wil work just they not anti lock brakes safe maybe what im thinking is id report boss to his boss there is always someone over since we talking kids lives sounds like boss is a problem... safety first

The van is safe to drive with out ABS. However, the "Boss" has a legal obligation to keep the van in good mechanical repair, including ABS (a safety feature). You could always make an anonymous phone call to OSHA, or DOT. Good Luck!

I am not a mechanic or an expert, but generally, I have been told that ABS brakes are supposed to be designed so that if the ABS part fails, the brakes will still work OK.

But I would take it to one of the local brake chain shops that offer free inspections, and ask them to be sure. It won't cost you or the boss anything for a free inspection, and you can get a quote to take back to him to show what the repairs would cost.

I drove my old car without ABS for years, the brakes still work fine. The only thing is that when it's raining or snowing, the ABS wont kick in.

Cars drove great for 80 years without ABS. You do not even notice ABS most of the time and yes it is fail-safe the brakes still work.
Get a tape recorder and try to catch the sounds. ABS is only used when the brakes are applied too hard causing a skid so apply the brakes gently but firmly and pump them when you feel th a wheel slip ,skid or lock.

Having ABS brakes will help you out a lot but especially in your situation with children and I would demand that this be repaired for every ones safety.

In UK your braking the law if your min-bus has no ABS. your Boss" has a legal obligation to fix it if not faces a fine and PG9 which put on every vehicle he has If I was you Iwould see the police about it. at the end of the day its your license
