Is telling VIN code safe?

I'm now selling my car on the Craigslist. And right now someone emailed me that can you tell me the VIN code?. So is this safe?

There nothing that they could to hurt you by giving out the vin# to someone that's wonting to buy your car.

Yes it is safe to give out. They most likely want it so they can see a Carfax and get the run down on the car. Now there are some cases where people get the vin and attempt to clone the vin for another stolen car. However keep in mind that there are a number of different places that the vin is located on the car so this makes it difficult. either way you have all the proper documentation proving that the vin to your car is the one true vin. So your fine.

Absolutely. The VIN is actually tagged along the bottom of your windshield. Anyone can see it.

Yes it's safe to let them know. When people buy a car they like to know if the car has any out standing bills on it or if it's being in an accident or even declared not road worthy. It's a safe way for them to check the cars history so no worries! Never lie about the cars history because if the potential buyer finds out otherwise you will lose a sale. Good luck!

yes it is as they will need this to do a HPi check, besides that most cars now have them on a plate at the bottom of the windscreen

NO! Don't give out the VIN, because I've seen people use the information to create a phony title and lay claim to the vehicle.

Besides, there's no reason to give out the information. Everything a buyer needs to know you can tell them, and if they want a Carfax report you can get it for them and black out the VIN code.
