Is the carpool lane for big families...or is it for speeding??

Additional Details
Kiffin # 1...people in the car pool lane speed! (that's what I meant) they seem to think, that's what it's for.

Now I believe I've heard everything...SPEEDING??? You MUST be joking, right?? The car pool lane is strictly for vehicles that have at least two, or in some cases, three passengers. They are designed to alleviate congestion, not to promote speeding....Thanks, and good luck!

It is for 2 or more people in the vehicle. But yes, people abuse the diamond/carpool lane. They go much faster than needed, I remember I was going 80 mph on it and a guy behind me was right up close! I was already uncomfortable going 80, so when I got out of the lane, the guy rushed past me, probably going 90 or 95!

But to answer your question, for 2 or more people. Not for speeding!

Just use the carpool lane when there's traffic and when the freeway is nicely moving, you don't need to go to the carpool lane if you are uncomfortable.

All lanes are for speeding in LA. More them one can use the car pool lane.

It's for cars with two or more people in them. They are usually faster because when there is traffic there are usually a lot less people in the car pool lanes.

its a mass transit lane, minimum 2 people. cops also tend to watch that lane more closely for people using the lane for speeding,or single occupant.

IT is for cars with 2 or more people in it, if not and someone cetches you, you will get ticketed. You are allowed to go faster in the HOV lane, it is not called the "carpool lane".

In California, there are rules on the signs that you have to read in order to use the carpool lane, which is also called the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane, or the diamond lane. It's not meant for families at all, but rather to reduce the number of drivers that travel without passengers on the freeway. You really should only drive the posted speed limit on any street in order to avoid moving violations.

i say both, depending on traffic. If traffic is heavy then its for the families, if its not that heavy, then the family van goes just as fast in the other lanes, leave the carpool for the fast vehicles.
