Is this an legitmate reason to fail me on the drivers test? ?

My instructor said that everything was perfect, but when I was pulling into the DMV parking lot at the end of the test, there was a bike lane between me and the curb, and I didn't merge into the bike lane and look before I turned. Other than that, I got EVERYTHING right.
:(

Every day there are people who post here that seem to think they know better than a driving assessor with experience.

Its funny how none of them think they should have failed when the assessor thought they should pass.

Yes, its a legitimate reason to fail, that's why you failed.

"other than that I got everything right...." I'm sure Mrs Jones will take comfort in that when they tell her you just killed her son.

It only takes one mistake to kill, you seem to be trivialising it.

You failed, learn from it, improve.

Yes, because if you did this when you had passed and hit someone then they would be at some fault, they can only pass you once they're satisfied that you're no danger to others. Keep at it and you will eventually pass, good luck!

Instructors don't do testing, that is done by the DSA. Where are you? When I look at the bottom left of my screen it says UK/Ireland. There are other flags for other countries, including the US.

Please punctuate properly folks.

Other than hitting the great big ICEBERG, the Titanic had a lovely maiden voyage! He was right to fail you, and you must learn to look out for hazards through the entire journey you make!

The driving instructor was correct to fail you for this. Think about it. If you had turned into a bike lane before looking in a real life situation you would not have seen a bicyclist and you may have hit them. Bicyclists are pedestrians too. Their lanes are to be treated just as any other pedestrian cross walk. The purpose of the driving test is to prepare you for real life situations and to help you avoid any accidents that may be on the horizon. You failed because you did not look at the situation properly. Its just the rules of the road. Treat bicyclists like pedestrians and you will avoid accidents and any law suits.

OBSERVATION, rather, lack of, is a major fail point.
Better luck next time.

You didn't LOOK before you turned? Yeah that's a legit reason to fail you. I failed my first time because I was on a main street and put the car in reverse. I didn't back up, and I had looked behind me after I put it in reverse as to WHY I didn't. Thing is the rule, at least around here, is that you aren't allowed to back up on a main street. So since I was going to I failed. I didn't try to argue that well I didn't do it. I just went and took my test again and passed.

I think that he was unreasonable, everything on the open road you say you did correctly, and then pulling into the test centre you didn't merge into the bike lane---i thought bike lanes were for bikes and not cars and your test doesn't start till you go on the public road and should finish when you leave the public highway.Appeal against the failure
