This is tragic.
Little Adrianna was hit by a 2 1/2-ton mass of steel.

There are too many SUVs on the road and the vast majority of them are driven by the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Most people who drive an SUV don't ever use the vehicle in any way that's unique to an SUV, i.e. off-road or in any kind of "tough-duty" driving. Most people who actually do have some need for the large people-hauling capacity of an SUV would accomplish their purpose with a minivan or, better yet, a station wagon. Remember station wagons? I don't recall Americans chafing at the inadequacy of their station wagons for hauling the kids around or picking Grandma and her bags up at the airport 30 years ago. But I digress ...

A very sad story. I had a friend in high school who's dad accidentally ran over and killed her little sister. Ended in a divorce. It is all about ego any more. People are missing something spirtually so they try to make up for it with things. |

It's tragic, of course. Any time someone is killed or injured it is tragic. But it has more to do with not properly watching a 2 year old. Your person feelings rant against the SUV is totally off subject, it could have as easily been a station wagon that was being backed out after all.
If you don't like them, and don't want to drive them, don't. But don't try to legislate that everyone has to do as you want done. |

Yes I agree it's tragic, but it could of been any vehicle out that could of killed her. Targeting the SUV I see is pointless, might as well point a finger at pickups, 18 wheelers etc. |

The fact that it was an SUV has nothing to do with the accident. My father was killed by a Toyota Supra. Notice I am not on here ranting about all the inconsiderate, selfish people driving "father-killer" Toyotas.
Last time I checked, this was The United States of America, and we are free to drive whatever we wish.
Go hug a tree and quit wasting my time. |

People can get hit by and killed by a car of ANY size. A geo metro going fast enough could kill someone.
Idiots drive all sorts of cars - not just SUVs. |

I drive a truck, but I live in the middle of nowhere and have to haul my own stuff. When I had a family I drove a station wagon |

This has nothing to do with SUV being dangerous because they are not. This accident is 100% fault of the driver and parents. Besides many SUV come with backup cameras now. SUVs are nice to drive. My SUV weighs 2.5 tons 5,500lbs but it drives like a car, but I also take it off road. It is nice having four wheel drive. My SUV does not have a backup camera and I am always very careful when backing out of parking spaces etc..
Driving an SUV is just a personal choice, I like being a little bit up higher than everyone else. I like the ability to go off roading, go through 2 feet of water, over curbs etc.. Sure I get 13mpg but I enjoy my SUV and I can afford the gas. Also my SUV goes 0-60mph in 7.2s and drives at 130mph with ease so it has the same advantages of a car. SUVs are safe cars for everyone if the people driving them are careful.
This would have happened in any car, if the baby is behind the car right near the wheels or just a few feet from the back this was going to happen in any car, a Mini would have killed the kid or an Range Rover it does not make a difference.
And for the people that say driving a SUV is a status symbol only for the elite? WHAT? Ford Explorer is not expensive neither is a Nissan Exterai, FJ Cruiser, used Land Rovers from 2001 are worth $10,000. People who like SUVs drive SUVs and that's why they do it. |

Owning an SUV is the " vanity " status symbol of the elite ! It is their way of showing the less financially endowed the power of their " look at me and what I have " lifestyle ! Chances are they are the ones` complaining about the high gas prices . As it is ones` choice to drive what ever one wants to drive ; it is also ones` choice to drive what is affordable for them !! The question I think most non SUV enthusiast would ask an SUV owner is ; WHY ? |

Until we ditch all the BS gas-guzzlers out there this SUV mania we are sadly engulfed in will not go away...I think you might be a little paranoid about it though...I think a station wagon could crush a child just as easily as an SUV can. I think we should go back to 17-1800's modes of transportation-horses, stagecoaches, and iron-horse led trains. |

SUVs are driven and owned by the stupid. There are totally unnecessary. People who support these vehicles can thank themselves and other owners for the increase in gas prices. Hopefully this stupid trend will end soon. |
