If a vehicle is stopped at a red light (turning left), how fast would the vehicle be going in around 3200 feet? The vehicle is a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser with a 2.4 liter DOHC four cylinder and a 5 speed manual transmission. The only modifications are that it has dual exhaust, cold air induction, 235-45/R18 radial tires and over-sized brakes. There was no one in the car except for a 190 lbs. man, no cargo. The driver was stopped for speeding and the officer said the speed was over 70MPH. How is this figured out mathematically and scientifically answered? What would the actual speed/velocity of the vehicle be? Is it possible a ten year old car with over 105,000 miles and in need of help to do it?

Oh yeah, the driving surface was sunny, dry,no traffic and on a flat roadway at 3:25 PM PST.

Yes that car is plenty capable of reaching 70mph in six tenths of a mile. It should be able to do that in about 1/8th of a mile actually. |

First realize 3200 feet is over 1/2 a mile, so you probably could get it up to 70MPH, even for a TP Cruiser in that distance. SLOW DOWN |
