Is wearing a seatbelt important to you? About how important?

It is very important to me. Even as a child I always wore it, I never complained. Actually my dad was always the one who never wore one and as a child I'd always beg him to. Years later when I turned 20....it saved my life. Last year I was in a very bad car accident. I crashed head on into an enbankment going about 65-70 mph. I broke four ribs, my nose, punctured my liver and had a ruptured aorta...but there is no question in my mind that my seatbelt saved my life. THAT'S how important it is to me.

Very important, as in I NEVER drive wihout it! It saved my bacon twice, and you CANNOT go off-roading without wearing one- you would get beat to hell!

They are there for a reason, so if you choose not to wear one don't expect people to cry for you if you get thrown from your vehicle.

It's very important to me, and I never go anywhere without wearing it. I'm the same as some of the other answers where I feel uncomfortable when other don't wear there's The reason I wear mine is as a kid the car never went anywhere unless everyone was wearing their seatbelt. The other reason, or reasons are that I have had friends that have been killed because they weren't buckled up. I had one friend who was thrown through the windscreen as she wasn't wearing her seatbelt, and she was sitting in the front passenger seat. Her friend, and mine, was driving, and survived, as she was buckled up. My other friend and her three kids came with me to the shops one day, and she never bothered to restrain herself or her children, despite my best efforts to get her to buckled herself, or even her kids. She was siting in the front passengers seat holding her two year old daughter on her lap, and in the back were her two other daughters, on three and the other six. The three year old was standing between the seats talking to her mother when I swerved to avoid a car that had crossed the road, and we slammed into a tree. Just like the crash test where the dummy mother is holding her child in her lap, my friend and her daughter were hurtled into, then went straight through the windscreen and died instantly, as did my friends three year old, who went straight through the windscreen as well, and her other daughter died, when she was slammed into the back of the passengers seat, then into the ceiling before ending up in the foot well of the passengers side. I survived, as I was the only one restrained. I still have nightmares about that crash, and I cringe every time that I see a mother holding a child in her lap, regardless of whether the mother is or isn't restrained. 4 lives cut short in one smash because they weren't restrained. It's simple. Buckle up. If you don't want to, then fine don't, but at least give your kids a chance by restraining them as they know no better a lot of the time

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
Let's face It. Seat belts are there for a reason.
Here in the U.S. they were not even mandatory equipment in
passenger cars built in the U.S. before 1968.
My 1st car, built in 1963 had no seat belts.

Furthermore, seat belts (their use) are MANDITORY here in California.. and for good reason.
My life was nearly ended on Christmas Night, 1982 because I had the "stupid" idea that the seat belt...
(as a result of my 1963 vehicle experience with no accidents)
was "inconvenient" as I was only driving 3 miles home.
I was less than 1/2 of a mile from mom's house.
I walked this road so many times, growing up!

To make a long story short, a drunk driver crossed the double
yellow line on a 2-way road into my path, head on.
I swerved out of my lane to the right, took out a tree, continued on right into a oak tree that was way over 100 years old.
Avioding a "certain death" head-on collision.
This was just before "airbags" and ABS.
How lucky was I?

No airbags, No ABS?
This car was only 3 years old at the time. (1982)

My head went through the windshield at 35 MPH, tearing my forehead open, but worse was the "whiplash effect" were my head and neck came "back" into the passenger compartment.
The jagged glass created by my head, cut my neck 1/4 inch from my jugular vein, on the right side of my neck.
My BEST FREIND on the passenger side was thrown, "ejected" from my car.. tumbled in the dirt, and only sustained a small cut to the top of his head.
I nearly blead to death, at the age of 22.
The seatbelt was right there...
yet I choose not to use it.

I spent 3 days in the hospital as a result.
I was lucky to be alive. I still do not remember the ambulance ride.I had so much dried blood in my hair, every time I touched my hair in the hospital, all I felt was "crunch" and looked at the hundreds of black flecks of blood on my hands.

Is wearing "the" seatbelt important?
Today we live with "laws" requiring It.
I personnally disagree with laws "mandating safty" as I belive common sence should be exercised.

Example: Back then, I thought wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle just made sence.
Well, because of a common "lack of common sence" we have
had to pass a law... so sad.

Today we have "crumple zones, front and side air bags, DVD players, insanley loud stereo systems, idiots yakking on cell phones while they drive, ABS, etc."

You know what...
I'll take common sence over a TRUE false sence of security.
Your car may have been sold to as "safe" but no car is "safe",
when the "other guy" is not. If you really belive this, you are a fool.

The reality: I was lucky enough to be in a hospital bed, and my mother yelled at me.. and yet at the same time she held me, and my blood soaked "crunchy hair" and told me she loved me.

I lived.. to tell this story.
My life has never been the same.
Thank you all.

P.S. I went on to have been blessed with 2 daughters, Amanda, and Rose... ages 19 and 25.
They have their "My Space" pages computers, their boyfreinds..
Mom doesn't want to see you as she saw me that night!!!

WEAR YOUR SEATBELT.. DON"T BE FOOLISH.
Thanks,
Big Mr. U :)

It's the law in my state and it's a good one. My father weighed over 200 lbs. and hated wearing a seat belt. And I always made him wear one when he rode with me. The idea of of even 25 lbs. flying around uncontrolled in a vehichle leaves me with bad images. I don't drive or ride without the belt.
