Isn't it illegal to drive with rear fog lights on when they are not required?

Has anyone been nicked for leaving them on long after the fog has cleared?

It's certainly illegal in the UK because its confusing to other road users. If you got stopped by a police officer you would get an on the spot fine. |

It is illegal and also illegal if the switch does not have a warning light to show it is on.
Fog lights can be highly dangerous as the glare can effect what the driver behind you can see.
Many people use them in rain and that is even more dangerous as the glare reflects off the road. |

Yes police will stop you for it, it is a warning/fixed penalty notice of fence, you should not use them when visibility is above 50m |

Incorrect use of lights. |

Yes, you can get stopped for this and should not have them on unless visibility is really bad, less than ten metres I think. I'm not sure you would get done for this, but they will certainly stop you and tell you to turn them off. |
|

†Oh yeah

I once drove with my high beams on a busy road at night. Just don't get caught and you should be fine. Avoiding it would be best. |

Yes it is. And forgetting to switch them off is no excuse, either - you're supposed to have a warning light by law. |

yes front also i got nicked a couple of years ago with them on .I was driving down a very bendy country lane late at night right out in the sticks and my headlights where like bike lights so to give me some more light i drove with my fogs on all alone and no other cars.well i thought until a hidden Police car pulled me over and that was it with my bodykit and spoiler on i was in for it and i was really was. |

I got stopped for this, the problem was i'd just bought the car and the warning light to show the lamps were lit was a piddly little thing almost hidden by my leg, as opposed to the 5000watt warning symbol next to the speedo in my previous car. Although it is an offence the police just let me know why they had stopped me, i got the "don't do it again" talk then they were on their way. It's common sense. What copper in his right mind wants to fill a load of paperwork in for a very minor offence when there's real police work to be done. And it keeps the public on side... |

I guess they must be converted to regular taillight bulbs when European Cars are imported here, because I see no distraction to them. I've followed a couple MB's with them left on, and other than looking goofy (looked like a buld was out on one side of the car, but I do know that most rear fogs are only one bulb) it didn't blind/dazzel me at all. |

Unless your driving a snow plow or a tow vehicle , I would think they're illegal |
