I have seen loads of people doing this but unfortunately it`s not usually them that end up in a crash it`s the innocent ones, much stricter penaltys and controls over this i think.... |

We live in Spain and drivers and riders here don't bother about the law, especially when in small towns and villages. Use mobile phones, no seat belts, kids climbing all over the inside of the car. Riders using mobiles, no helmets, young girls (including pillion rider) on scooters wearing only bikinis and flip flops. Nobody stops at red traffic lights unless they are forced to. The culture here is so much different, but its fun in a way. |

Very simply, people will obey laws for two reasons. One is the fear of punishment, and the other is because they see the value in the law.
Many people do not think that driving and talking on a cell phone is dangerous. I drive about 1000 miles a week, and I have no problem using a non hands free phone. In area where the nanny state has decided to make it illegal for me to do so, I am just more careful to watch for law enforcement. The law causes me to have to divert my attention (looking for cops) more than the phone conversation.
Some people can use a phone and drive safely. Some can not even walk and chew gum without problems. Those who can use a phone safely should not be penalized for the lack of other's ability. |

What I think is that people find it neccesary to talk. They can't talk comfortably in home nor office. Probably a car is the only place left. |

The same people use them while eating, and at the cinema, they're called morons.
Morons out number all others, so keep an eye out. |

Simple. Some people are idiots who have no regard for the safety of others. Quite simply they really do believe the world revolves around themselves.
Selfish stupid people. |

I agree, no one should talk on the phone while driving , unless you have a hans free devise, that it should be a blue tooth or similar so you can activate it on comand. I got in a fender bender reaching for my phone and I had an earpiece in just needed to hit one button on my phone, and hit the person in front of me. Also I have a problem with drivers who multi task such as reading the paper , texting, putting on make-up, the list goes on and on . |

what u talkin' bout?

I see it all the time. People 'always' talk on there phone. A few weeks ago, there was a bad accident, and now its out in the news that text messaging was going on with this persons phone at the time of the crash. All five in the vehicle died. Very sad. When are people going to learn? |

I don't drive but as a pedestrian I see this all the time. You can see that they are not paying attention to the road. Either ignore the call and pick up your voice-mail later or pull over. Unfortunately, if there was an accident it would not be the person who used their mobile illegally who gets hurt but some poor sod in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

I hate it, I see people trying to negotiate roundabouts etc with a phone clutched to their face.
I either pull over or ignore it - if it's important they'll ring back anyway. |

Some people have an over-inflated opinion of their driving abilities, it's the same with those stupid s ods who claim they drive better when drunk. Or those who claim they have strong arms so they don't need to wear a seat-belt! |

I know what you are referring to
people use their cell phones or mobile phones
and not paying attention. Whether its America or Canada
some places have law that forbid use of phones while you drive |

You're right there doesn't seem to be any improvement since it became illegal. In fact people are getting more sneaky.Talking into a phone they are holding is bad enough but I saw someone with their hand resting on the steering wheel texting !Also I saw a cyclist talking on a mobile phone but a police car pulled alongside and confiscated it because apparently they had already warned him once.! |

I don't think that a police officer should have the right to pull you over and ticket you for not wearing your seatbelt. They rarely wear them themselves. It is dumb not to wear your seatbelt, everyone knows this, but it should be your own choice if you choose to take that risk. I believe there are a lot of new laws that are also unfair to the public. Cell phone laws in CA are rediculous. Officers drive around all day talking on their radios, which are not hands free devices. People are getting pulled over and ticketed just because an officer thinks he/she may be texting, when in reality they could be answering their phone or checking the time. Its not fair because all it comes down to if you do try to fight the ticket is your word against the officers, and who is the judge going to believe? Everything is about the money... and I wonder with all the new laws and so many people gettting ticketed, where does all that money go? CA has a huge deficite and with every officer ticketing approx 6 people per day per officer at at least $120 a ticket, that adds up pretty fast. And now they want to raise the cost of the ticket! How about the cameras they're putting up at intersections, do you think getting a ticket in the mail is really going to discourage a person from running a red light? I dont believe many people run red lights on purpose, and now even if there is not an officer there to pull you over to see if there was a reason why you may have run that light, you get a ticket. There is nothing good about that for the public, except maybe getting accidents on tape to see who was really at fault. Other than that they are all money making schemes to me. Every one of them, from the cost of getting a DUI, and the toll it takes on ones life, to a seatbelt ticket which should be a choice, and a hands free cell phone law which officers disobey on a day to day basis. Whats next? My guess is that they outlaw the radio and cd players, those are not hands free devices and i'm sure there are many accidents that happen because someone was messing with the radio. When are we going to stop giving up our freedom. Shit happens no matter what. Don't give up your freedom in hopes that bad shit wont happen, educate society, dont enable the law to take any more money. The only thing that really would help keep bad things from happening is everyone to decide to be more responsible and treat others with respect, make the right decisions. Today more people are afraid of the law hurting them than helping them. Most people look at the police as someone out there to get them, and in my opinion they're right. Police officers are not treating people with respect, they are more like bullies than anything else. This is not the way it should be. Thank you for reading, please comment if you like. I would love to be enlightened. |
