Is it true in CA that if you are being DD and driving drunk people home and a cop pulls you over, that the DD can get in trouble for driving them and possible get a DUI? because that is what a friend had told me

that's not true. if you were the designated driver, then you wouldn't get charged with a DUI because you aren't the drunk person driving a car. you really shouldn't get charged for anything.
but i will tell you something. if you are the designated driver and drunk people are in the car, you are responsible for all those drunk people in that car. if they do something stupid and you get pulled over for it, then it might fall on your head because you are responsible for them. |

I think your friend has been smoking wacky tobacky. If that were the case they'd also write up every cab driver who took a fare who was drunk. Not true. Many Cities even run DD programs during major holidays where you can call and get a free ride when you've been drinking. |

Designated Driver programs provide transportation for persons who plan to drink, and typically promote the concept of designating a driver to commit to remaining sober and assuming the responsibility of getting others home safely.

Re garding the designated driver program for Calif. My son was driving his friends car and getting them home safely, when pulled over for tail light out. It seems there was no proof of registration or insurance in the glove box, although was current. My son had to sign the fix it ticket, with owner in the car front seat. Friend swore he'd turn in to prove everything was OK and now almost 5 years later, my son is sent to collections for $850.00. How can helping someone get home safe be a DD's fault? |
