Lifting people with Fork Lift Trucks?

Lifting people with Fork Lift Trucks?

Is the operator of the forklift truck supposed to get off the forklift after he elevated someone up or he should remain at his seat?
I don't need a "yes"or "no" answers. Pretty much what I need is a link to an official website on which I could read the answer myself.
Thank you

Yes, you definitely can lift people on the foklift, There are special cages designed just for it. Period.

The person being lifted must be in a platform with safety rails and a safety harness - and the operator must stay in control of the fork lift.

The operator is to remain seated and "buckle up" in case of tip-over and to hold onto the steering wheel, brace the feet, and lean away from the direction of tip over.

I work in a warehouse and we use lifts all the time, it would be a good idea when you have someone up in the air so that there is no chance of bumping the controls. Also get a safety harness that supports your upper body not a belt it can save you some money on your insurance

I know someone who died because he raised the forklift and left it up, when he got out of it. The machine fell over on him. You don't need a website.

I work in a warehouse, and just last week our safety officer was being lifted by forklift (using a safety cage) for maintenance to ceiling lights.
The driver stayed seated and buckled during the process.
I have seen this done several times at various places and the driver has always stayed on the forklift.

The website which should cover this is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration - (OSHA).

There is a LOT of information and links from there - good luck finding the right page.

Check with the Health and Safety but I think you will find that using a fork lift as a personel elevator is a very big NO, NO.

Cheeky Monkey
you can not use a fork lift truck as a means of elevating personnel, period.

It is a BIG no no.

I think we are getting British and American practices mixed up here, to be honest.
