These are builders' lorries. They are parked in a residential street overnight and at weekends. They take up 'on street' parking spaces, and are unsightly in an area of semi-detached, two bedroom bungalows.

If they're LGVs, they come under the conditions of an operators licence, which requires that they are not parked on the highway. However, I suspect these are probably smaller vehicles, which come under the same parking regulations as anyone else. You might want to ask the police to come and have a look and see what they say.
If it's legal it's legal, you cannot ban a vehicle on the grounds that it lowers the tone of the neighbourhood. |

If there are no parking restrictions in your road, yes the lorries can park there.. The fact that they might be using space other residents might use or the appearance of he lorries is imaterial... Only if they constituted a public nuisance would the police or council be interested. |

You don't say where the builder's office is located, is it a local firm or a firm doing business at one of the local properties??
Unless the lorries are parked on double yellow lines, or are parked in an obviously dangerous manner (I.E. double parked, or in a disabled bay (covered by a TRO) then they can pretty much park where they like as they will have the exact same rights as "normal" cars...
You could try contacting the firm involved, or the houseowner employing them, but it's likely that the drivers are leaving the lorries there at the boss's request.. the only other thing you could try would be to get a petition going in your neighbourhood to inform the builder of the potential loss of business that ignoring your concerns could cause...
Good luck with this.. |

You'd be best off writing a letter or calling up your council, they may be able to deal with the situation, but no it's not illegal, unless obviously they are double parked. |

Most cocuncils have limits on the unladen weight of vehicles that can be parked in residential areas. Check with them. |

no, get the police to remove it, and then send a letter to the company who own the lorry. (the limit is 3.5 ton) |

Your gonna have to find out what the local ordinance is about parking on the street. If these vehicles are company vehicles with their company names on them, then possibly there's an ordinance against commercial vehicles parking in residential areas. We have such an ordinance where I live here in suburban Chicago. Commercial vehicles must park at their place of business it says. G'luck. |

Perhaps the builders connected to the 'lorries' LIVE in the semi-detatched two bedroom bungalows??? And therefore have every right to park their vehicles (assuming they are NOT over 3.5 tons - and builders lorries are generally Transit flatbeds or the like therefore well short of that) there overnight and at weekends (i.e. when they are not at work). Sad nimby..... |

No it is not illegal unless there are no parking signs for heavy goods vehicles.
I suggest you contact the company to which the lorries belong and see if the problem can be solved that way.
If not then contact the local police, and the local council.
If you get no further with them then write a nice letter to your local MP with copies to the building company, police and local council.
Best of luck. |
