Narrow tyres work best in snow if it puts down a big footprint then it will not grip, its all about the weight per square inch, stick with what you have fitted, snow will not last long |

the low pro tires are not intended for usage during winter. you need to either reinstall your stock wheels or if you dont have any then you have to get some.
to the guy before me..you cant wrap low pro tires with chains. |

Actually it could well have nothing at all to do with your tyres and everything to do with your driving method. You need as gentle a foot on the accelerator as possible on a snowy incline, a touch too much and the wheels will spin. |

A Front - Wheel Drive Car will get you up hills easier in snowy conditions, you can turn steering lock to gain new grip, also try to time going up hill with low revs say in third gear try not to slow down or stop because once you select second or first gear without front wheel drive you have not much chance of getting up that hill and you will have to go back down and try again. |

As long as you have plenty of tread you needn't worry too much about profiles. All you should need to do is to adopt a gentler driving technique, If that doesn't work carry a couple of bits of carpet you can put them under the driving wheels do get yourself moving.

I suspect it has more to do with the configuration of the car than tires. Is his car Front wheel drive and yours not? |

It has nothing to do with the profile of the tyres, more the width. I have a car with wide tyres on it and I couldn't get it off the drive this morning. (North UK) It's to do with Pressure/Area. Thin tyres 'cut' into the snow where as wider tyres distribute your cars weight more evenly hence you skid/slide over the top.
RWD cars don't help either as with a normal car the weight of the car (engine) is over the drive wheels. With a RWD they aren't which reduces traction. The answer is...
Just hope it doesn't snow tomorrow!!! |

It has nothing to do with low profile tires. It may have to do with the difference in the vehicle itself. Your boyfriend may have a different size vehicle. If that is so then of course his car would be able to move up the hill at ease. Also you must look at the conditions of your tires. Your tires may not have been built for the snow. What you need are all season all purpose tires. This is helpful because with all season you can get through the rain, sleet, snow, and regular weather. I would suggest getting all season tires. But for now, don't try to drive in inclement weather because it is hazardous. |

They could be problematic in snow and it would be better to fit narrower tyres with plenty of tread. |

Depends on what tires it has.... if they are low-profile tires, then no. As long as the tire profile e.g. the '65' in 185/65/R16, is 60 or higher, it should be fine. Anything less would be a problem.... |

you can wrap chains around the wheels and tires, but you have to be careful about scratching the rims |
