Middle Lane Drivers?

Is it just me or does anyone else have an irrational hatred of these people?

Actually in the Uk the left hand lane is classed as the travel lane ,the middle lane is an overtaking lane, the outside is classed as the second overtaking lane.......this means as soon as you have finished overtaking, you are to move back into the left hand lane as soon as is safely possible.
Middle lane hoggers cause irritation at best and accidents at worst....they artificially hold up traffic ( you rarely see them doing 70 mph ) as people behind are not certain of their intentions....and they can create massive problems for HGV drivers,Trucks need to keep moving for maxium eficiency, and having to constantly brake while carrying a heavy load up a steep incline...because the middle lane is travelling slower than the travel lane can create huge congestion.
Name and shame the idiots i say, better yet....actually have some traffic police on the roads. |

I drive a truck for a living,I carry ab' loads all over europe.
These people should learn to drive considerately.
The law states,"Keep left unless overtaking".
I can't use the outside lane, these people really annoy me.. |

Depending on the state, this is illegal. Most people don't understand they are supposed to drive in the right hand lane and use the others to pass. In large city's that have heavy traffic patterns (rush hour, talk about a oxymoron) you can use the first two right lanes to drive but are still supposed to stay out of the far left lane except to pass. I've driven long haul truck for several years and we are frozen to the right lane with limited exceptions, one being where traffic is heavy and there are a lot of on ramps merging with the traffic flow. This is for safety, it keeps little critters from getting squashed under our trailers. |

The Tank
 |
It's not just you. These are selfish, lazy gits who don't care about anybody else except themselves and their "cruise control".
Now I'm going to be controversial. Have you noticed that, as a proportion, most CLODs are women? About 60-70% of women drivers hog the middle lane whereas only abot 20% of men do it. (That still means a lot of men because there are more men driving on the motorways).
Mrs Tank reckons that it's because they're more "nervous" and don't like changing lanes. My response is always that if they're so "nervous" then they shouldn't be on the motorway.
CLODs are as bad as those bloddy-minded idiots who charge on from the slip roads and expect traffic already on the motorway to give way to them.
Crush their cars I say!!! |

There's nothing irrational about it. It's not only the sign of a bad driver, but I reckon they must be the self involved people who believe they should be at the centre of everything.
Recently was driving on an empty motorway at 3am when I came up on someone driving at 60 mph in middle lane .
Maybe I looked like the nutter waving my fist like a lunatic as I passed, but I took great satisfaction as I used my indicator to take up my correct position in the inside lane. |

These people are a pain in the backside, they cause other road users to make irrational and sometimes illegal manoeuvres to get past them by using the inside lane thus breaking the law by "undertaking" and putting other road users at considerable risk. The motorways of the UK are now covered with CCTV cameras and with Police and Highway patrol vehicles ever more present they should be pulled over and fined for this irritable and dangerous practise, or just castrated and have the vehicle confiscated. oh i think i may be losing it, time to call it a day on this one before i get arrested for something!!! |

I've read the other answers and they are mostly way off track. On the Interstate highways, the middle lane is called the "Travel" lane. It's intended for use by drivers on long distance trips and is the safest lane. The left lane is the "Passing" lane and the right lane is the "Slow" lane. This is by law by the way, not a suggestion. If you approach a vehicle in the center lane and they are going the speed limit there's no foul, no error on that driver. If you must pass you go to the left lane and do so but of course you are exceeding the speed limit there. Passing on the right is not legal in most states but is acceptable if the center lane is moving under the speed limit. I'll bet you are a "Road Warrior" type of hot head that clings to the bumper of the car in front of you and expect them to move out of your way. If they're doing the speed limit, you are legely and moraly in the wrong.
The old saying is, "Anyone who drives slower than me is an Idiot and anyone who drives faster than me is a Maniac."
I drive thousands of miles on the Interstates each year and I'll glue myself into that center lane with the cruise set to the speed limit. You wanna go 90, go around and get out of my face. The center lane avoides the merging exit and on ramps and is safer on the long haul. It's been my experience that an enormous number of drivers ignore the laws anyway and deserve the tickets and accidents they have. |

I pray for the powers that be to let me have a tank so I can squash the middle laner's flat as a warning to others... And the idiots who insist on passing on the inside when there is nowhere for them to go anyway.............. |

It is because they are oblivious to other road users and do not have the capability to move in and out of traffic lanes like the lorry drivers do , it is mostly the middle aged who commit this offence , I know this as i am a lorry driver . |

Only if they are blocking the way to overtake them. I don't mind if the fast lane is clear and i can overtake easily. I find fast line drivers who don't move to the middle lane more annoying. |

I hate it when trucks try to overtake each other, it's like they're playing games with each other and it makes me so mad. They should be doing no more than 70 and they try to over-do each other. |
