Mobile speed cameras?

right i think i may have got caught by one on the a11 barton mills roundabout sat 11th oct. i was just wondering how far they can see and get you from?? are they set dead on the speed limits which this time was 50mph?? what happens if your on 9 points and get a speeding ticket and whats options they will give me??? what to do if it was in a slightly hidden area that you couldnt see until your near enough on top of it??

any help would be much appreciated and i was doing inbetween 50-58 mph i think

if you were under the 60 mark you may be ok , however if you receive a court summonse, its best to attend because on 9 points, it will be a 6 month disqualification ? the judge will ask if there is any reason you need your licence, ie any hardship you will incur without it, like job loss etc, if your excuse is good enough he will let you drive with 12 points, on the down side, i wouldnt want your insurance quote. the mobile camera unit can see for almost 2 miles, but they only focus on set way points, so they can determine your speed ie, usually between 20 feet, and judge your speed by the time it takes you to get from point a to to point b. distance by time. good luck, hope this helps

I believe that some can "see" 2km or so. An interview in a local paper with a local chief of police mentions that they set out the speed camera to target a particular speed.

For example. Setting the speed trigger to 86 and targeting the outside lane of the motorway. The operator just sits there and presses the button for every one over the limit. The next day it might be 78mph targeting the inside lane.

I also think that it is 14 days to get the NIP to you? If already at 9 points I would be watching my speed somewhat.

it really depends on several factors. normally you would be pulled in if you went over a speed limit by a small amount eg:50 mph limit and you doing 54 will not get pulled in ( by most!! forces) at 58 you will get a ticket.
the range varies according to terrain.clear road & good weather etc.
try looking at sites like petrol heads for more information. there is a limit for issuing a ticket which i Think is 6 weeks! after which it will not be enforced if you point out the dates etc.

If I were you I`d buy a bike or a bus pass.If you`re on 9 points already you`re probably looking at a ban and higher insurance when you get your licence back.maybe you`ll be a bit more careful in the future.

What options will they give you?

Use a Bus or a Taxi!
