Not sure where you are coming from here, your boyfriend would have assessed by VOSA on a yearly basis, and assuming he failed a VOSA inspection he will have a full report as to the areas of improvement that need to be attended to.

He will also (or should have) a current copy of the MOT testers handbook which will give him all of the specific information he requires.

Normally he would only have lost his licence if he carried out a sub standard vehicle inspection which led to a customer complaint, or a vehicle has been stopped by police and found to be excessively unroadworthy.

In this instance he will normally have to complete the three day course where all the relevant information is given in order for him to pass the exam at the end of the course.

The test was in two parts--one at the dept of transport testing station which was theory and a practical at your place of work.Any competent mechanic would have no problems in passing the test but the ministry like the practical test to be done in a set pattern.Contact HMSO.to obtain a vehicle testers manual

if its the n.t.t test NOMINATED TESTERS EXAM you need to get him the vehicle and engine technology by heinz heisler im reading it now for my test wich v.o.s.a gave me thats the book they use for all the questions you should be able to get one at your local v.o.s.a depot . thats( vehicle. and. operator. services. agencey)

You can download the MoT testing guide and the MoT test manual from the Vosa website.
The course he will have to take is 3 days long where he will be trained on the use of the computer system for MoT's and on how to use the testing manuals and how to preform the MoT test. He will then ( if he passes) have to go back to work and then request a VE (Vehicle examiner ) come and watch him preform a test assuming he passes that he will be able to test.
He will have to attend a refresher at least once every 5 years.

You can buy the book at the MTO, some retailers also carry it, Canadian tire, many bookstores, etc. The local library also likely has a copy, my library does.,
