My Neighbors Keeping Parking All their Cars in Front of our House!?

Our Neighbors that live across the street, have 7 vehicles of their own, and they keep spreading them widely apart down the street. On weekends, they have tons of friends over and take up the whole block! We have a driveway which we can fit one vehicle in, but then we park our other vehicle on the street in front of our house. The neighbors keep to themselves and have never talked to us the whole 3 years we;ve lived here. I dont know what to do! I keep getting frustrated that they or their friends are taking up all the spaces and then we have no place to park our car! Ive called the non emergency number and asked a officer if anything can be done. But he said that since its public property, then anyone has the right to park in front of the houses on the street. I just dont know what to do! We have three little boys and I just dont want to park our van on the street to gauantee a spot for my husband when he gets home from work. Im afraid my kids will get hit if in the street.

We really like our house and did alot of remodeling. We have had no problems with any of the other neighbors and this is the only problem we've had. It really frustrates me to know that they cant leave a spot for their neighbors. They can see we have a car that we park on the street, just as they do. They dont have a driveway, so they have to park their cars on the street, but they can at least park their cars closer together. but they choose not to and take up the whole block!

Try talking to your neighbors about the problem first. I have neighbors who block my driveway often. Since I have to leave for work at 2am, they either get awakened by the door bell at
2am or they get my high beams through their bedroom window until they move their car. After a few sleepless nights they start to get the picture. You can try something similar if they don't cooperate.

Have you tried speaking to your neighbours, you never know how they will react maybe they dont realise that you are annoyed. Its best to speak with them first.

Or you could put out some of those yellow traffic cones and block a park for your other car.

Unfortunately it's legal but you could put up a sign saying please don't park here and when your husband goes to work park there yourself for a while.

we had the same problem. Unfortunately the officer was right. They are not doing anything illegal. We appealed to the neighbours in question. They complied for a while then went back as usual. we just live with it, I'm sorry to say.

I don't know where you are - Area-Country
so it is hard to comment on Council Juristiction

But it is pretty true to say, they all have the same
pretty much , once on the road / on the front verge
everyone wipes their hand of any responsibility.

The amount of cars they have could be an issue for
the council as usually each house is allocated an
average combination of cars per house hold / ie.some
houses do not have more than 2 car spaces for parking
so if there is 4 cars of people permanently occuping
the verge, then that should be illigal ?
You have to look into this!
We have the same problem, they turn up with cars trucks
even government sponsered busses, that us poor idiot
tax payers fund !! i work shift work and you can immagine
how much fun that is for me ! These kind of people live on
such selfish principals ....they immagine no one else exists
in the entire street exept for themselves .
Let me tell you some of my gripes! Might make you feel better
* R e v v i n g - of illigal parked truck form between 4:30 - 7:0
am , for a period of 15 minutes , till your definetly woken up.
* Parking of illigal Bus , with kids screaching in and out on our
front verge at that particular day .....you may have wanted to
sleep in !!!
* Fostering of their own familys( irrisponsible Parents)
children ...so that cars come back and forward dropping
these kids of , even though they are not there on a regular
living basis ! But it feels like the loca K-mart parking area.
* Dropping of , of 10 children because they take it in turns
to have these kids over, usualy and irrisponsible relative,lets them run all over peoples yards and gardens , as they don't
live here and don't care....on a pretend to look after them
basis...just let them run wild everywhere.
( i look forward to winter for one thing only , they cant do this
and the kids have to be looked after indoors )
* How about those drop of's and pick ups have i mentioned
the cars sit there and usually continuosly ReVV those motors
for at least 10 minutes with each noisy vechicle and each time, also apart from that.....someone finds it amusing to
keep tooting their horn whilest also doing this !!
Well thats my lovevly neighbours accross the road , my son
wants to purchase a Point 22 and take pot shots, who can
blame him, but i feel it will take a whole Year to eliminate them all !!!!!!!! (i think we know whom i am talking about)
By the way for those wondering i only open my mouth to them
asking politetly for them to do something once every six months to 8 months , because i have found it immpossible
to get through or communicate with them. As i said these
people are totally selfish and live in a world of their own.
If once in a while i say something , i get a mouthful of Abuse!

It sounds like they probably don't drive all these cars, and they're left on the street for days at a time.

Where I live cars left on the street more than three days can be ticketed, and towed if they 'don't notice' the ticket. Also, every residential neighborhood I've ever lived in has always had building requirements that all houses have an off-the-street parking area for cars, a garage or a car port. If they don't even have a driveway, something is not legit.

You could check with your local PD how long a car has to sit before it''s ticketed or considered abandoned.

Your property is with in the property boundary.

As others have said already, there is not a lot you can do, although the idea of parking the van out front and leave the driveway clear for your husbands car is about the best plan.

That sounds a bit rich. I recall back in the late 90s I was in bed sick for a week. Another time I had to fly interstate on holidays. I was gone for 2 weeks. I am sure glad I was not living in your area.

The only thing that I can think of is if you live where you have a (HOA) that manages your neighborhood for you then you can call and report this to them.

The rules are very simple if you have a (HOA), there can only be the same amount of cars that there are drivers and if there are too many drivers and cars they cannot park on your side.

As for the weekends there really is nothing that can be done except that they cannot do this every weekend and forget the police in this case.......

That is really frustrating! Since the police said there's nothing you can do, the only thing I can think of is to drive up your driveway, get the kids in the house and drive back out and save a spot. Really annoying that you have to be doing things like that. Moving's not an option?!
