My boyfriend has Road rage, Help?

My boyfriend has Road rage, Help?

We live in Dade County Florida, and Traffic in South Florida is the worst. Unfortunately he works about 40-50 miles North which is about 1hr -to an 1h and half and has to take I 95 to work every day Morning and afternoon. He always complains about traffic and how people don't know how to drive and they go to slow and there is always an accident. He does really stupid stuff cuts people off, if he gets cut off he follows them and then cuts them off, goes through the emergency lane, and the grass sometimes on the ramps and curses people out in the middle of the highway. It really scares me and I try to tell him that there is nothing he can do to just count to ten and keep on driving! He has complain to me about chest pains and his only 26! He is actually a great driver and have faith in his ability to drive crazy and not get hurt but I am scare that one of those peoples he curses out might pull out a gun and shoot him or his going to loose control of the car. Plus, when he gets home his throwing stuff every where and his face gets really red ( i think his blood pressure rises) once he slammed the closet door open so hard that the handle made a hole in the wall and truthfully sometimes I fear for my life (I know he wouldn't hurt me but I could never be so sure). So, I just leave him alone to cool it off! I understand him because I would get frustrated too if I had to drive such a long way everyday but what can I do to help him? Because even people at work have notice this about him.

If he does all those things you describe him doing on the road, then he is NOT a "great driver." A great driver does not cut other drivers off, no matter what the excuse. A great driver does not go into the emergency lane or on the grass.

He is, in fact, a very POOR and downright dangerous driver.

He scares you and doesn't listen to your concerns. You "truthfully" fear for your life. It appears you have a lot more issues than his road rage. The length of his commute does NOT excuse his behavior. Frustration is one thing, but acting violently out of that frustration is NOT normal behavior. If HE won't seek professional MENTAL help, then YOU should.

I used to be bad about that until someone cut me off and I chased them down and they held up a 9MM. It may eventually get him hurt or shot or they will get him stopped and beat the sh*t out of him. Not only that, but stress is a very direct line to heart attacks. I used to stay stressed out and it caused me to have a heart attack in 2002 and I almost died. he needs to take a chill pill. He's too young to let that stuff get him all keyed up. If he is having chest pains he need to ease up and it might be a good idea to go see the doctor and have it checked. there have been 25 year olds that have had heart attacks and died from it.

He's got more than just road rage, he is one deeply angry, severely frustrated guy. You are right to be worried.

There are classes in Anger Management, and he needs to take one. How you get him to do that is a very good question. My only suggestion would be to separate from him until he gets treatment, that would motivate him to do it and protect you at the same time.

I also wonder why you don't move to be closer to work. It might be worth it.

Usually people with road rage have anger issues in other aspects of their lives too. Think carefully about other situations and only say he doesn't if you are absolutely sure. The people I have known to lose it in the car tend to lose it other places as well (it won't be as obvious because there won't be as much opportunity).

Anyway, as long as he doesn't hurt anyone it's something you'll have to deal with, if he isn't willing to. If he ever takes it out on you though, you'd better be smart enough to leave.

"He is actually a great driver and have faith in his ability to drive crazy and not get hurt "
You are only fooling yourself. It's just a matter of time before his actions have repercussions - hope you are not there when it happens. Your boyfriend sounds like the worst driver out there, which is why everyone else makes him so angry.

DUMP him or you will one day be beaten. He is VERY immature and needs to seek counseling.

Your boyfriend is an immature idiot with other problems. The way he drives, along with the slamming doors and tantrums indicate deeper problems, the chest pains and red coloring could be stress induced health problems.

Get away from him for your own safety.

I would say this guy has some serious anger issues. This is coming from someone who has a temper too. However, even though I've been known to have a temper, road rage is something I just don't understand. What is it about getting behind the wheel that makes people go completely insane I don't know. Why don't people get mad at people for walking too slow down the sidewalks and clogging them up? This makes me a million times more mad than anything that happens when driving. So why don't people have "sidewalk rage"? Road rage seems to me to just be something that is completely illogical. This guy needs to have some patience or he might end up hurting himself or someone else someday.

Maybe you should drive instead of him.

For God's sake leave him! If you don't you're practically asking to be beaten one day.

So what is your problem? Listen and let him vent. I'm sure he's right and if you're afraid a slamming door move out.. what does that have to do with him venting driving frustrations? Talk to him or deal with it or leave, your choice.
