My car alarm went off tonight and i was in the house. I am afraid to go outside. What might have set it off?

I was walking down the stairs of my house when i thought i heard a car alarm, i went towards my kitchen (near the driveway) and it was my car (2008 Toyota Matrix) that was going off. It stopped when i looked out the window. I grabbed my car keys and hit the panic button (thinking there was someone trying to take my car) and then i armed the car after about 30 seconds. It beeped (to say it was armed). I am now afriad to go outside to look at my car to see if anything did happen to it. It is 11:30pm right now and i need to go out at 12:30. What might have set it off besides someone trying to steal it?

I am parked in my private drive way. No one there to hit it, but there is an open gate

car's are funny, they do this stuff randomly.

its probably an animal or a electrical thing.

More likely than not, the security system had a brain fart.
I hear these things go off quite often in large parking lots with no one near the guilty vehicle.

I wouldn't worry. Car alarms go off for many reasons. Have you ever heard a car alarm go off during July 4th from the loud fireworks? a lot of things can set it off. and it could have been the button was accidentally pushed while they were in your pocket (if that was where they were), just grab a blunt object if you are that scared, but usually, there isn't a thing to worry about.

It could be a stray electron from Mars, a mouse chewing on your wiring or an axe murderer trying to lure you out of your house. Maybe you bought a cheap 'made in China' alarm system. How the heck am I supposed to know !?!?!?

Maybe kids playing and one of their items hit your car, someone accidentally bumped into your car, or another car touched it by mistake.

Have courage, call a neighbor to come with you, ask a friend, or another family member.

My neighbors have that car.
It's alarm is very sensitive.
A strong gust of wind or stray animal maybe bumping into it.
That's usually whats sets their off.

Call the police and tell them someone is trying to break into your car. When they arrive they can check the area and make sure it's safe. Should be time for you to leave then.

If the keys were in your pocket,could be possible the panic button was pushed. It might also have a shock sensor that was set off by thunder ,cat,loud car ex:bass or exhaust. Either way dont be a beotch,,man up and protect your property!!!!

My sister set off our neighbor's car alarm by driving too close and too fast next to the car. An animal could have gotten too close to the car. It really just depends on how sensitive your car alarm is.
