My car breaks down in a remote area at night. Do I leave and look for help or stay with my vehicle?

That depends upon the weather. In extreme cold you need shelter from the elements first. In that case, stay with the vehicle. Remember the "Rule of Threes". You can survive:

1. 3 hours without shelter
2. 3 days without water
3. 3 weeks without food

well, im thinking if you dont have a phone, or if it is out of service, to stay in your car until the morning, then look for help, or flag someone down and ask to use the phone. but i woulnt ask for a ride, because there are alot of people you cant trust these days!

Ok they now have backup portable batteries that you can plug up to your motor without getting out of the car they were made by black and decker and are call the portable jump start sytem and if you have kids with you do not get out of the car and go look for help becuase you never no what's out there but if you don't have a cell phone the best thing I can tell you is to sleep in the car untill morning then it will be a little safer.

This answer is assuming you have a mobile/cell phone with you. My advice would be stay with the vehicle, it will offer you protection from the elements, and protection from predators human and animal. Phone your family, car insurance company or local sheriff for assistance, in the meantime try to move your vehicle off the road get in and lock the doors.

Search in your car for any emergency kit you might have. Mine has a thin but good thermal blanket. Especially during the winter, carry some blankets, flashlights, water, and other stuff you might need with you. I got some of those huge ziplocks, they work great to keep stuff nice until you might need them. If you don't use them, roate the foodstuff so it is fresh. If you have a windshield cover and a marksalot, write in big letters, "Please call police need help".
You might have a few people stop to act like they will help. Point to the sign and do NOT open the door. If you carry some non-perishable snacks in the car, then the kids will appreciate it. Chances are good that someone will come to your aid or police with drive the road at least once a day. Do not jump out at the first light, but when the sun is overhead, then go for help if you have not been helped yet. Travel as far as you can in two hours. If you cannot get somewhere by then, think about heaading back.

If it is night time there, just remain in the vehicle, lock your doors and call someone who you know and let them know what is going on.
And call for a tow truck if you have the number for one.

Yep

I mean if your out in the middle of nowhere, or an area you don't feel safe. Stay with the vehicle I say. Even in any area your unfamilliar with stay with the car. An call someone if you have a phone with you. Like 911 for help. But no phone. An not in a situation where your stuck out in the woods. Should probably leave, and get help.
