My car has summer tires,should I install all season or snow tires for winter.?

I have a Nissan Altima S-ER with summer/street slick tires and this is my first winter with the car.
It is illegal(and obviously dangerous) where I live to have summer rubber from December to april.You gotta use either all-season or winter tires.
My question is should I put on all season or winter tires for winter.
The all seasons are cheaper for my tire size and I am guessing they would still provide decent performance and for days it gets bad there is that spray can stuff tyre-grip(not sure if you have heard of it)which applies a thin sticky coating to your tires.Should I be okay?

Actually theres no such thing as a tire that can give you the best performance in all weather conditions. If you buy an all weather tire it will be acompromisee tire at best. If you notice in european racing they actually make pit stops and change tires if they are driving in the dry and it happens to start raining or drizzling. So they have either rain tires or dry tires. To get the most out of a tire irregardless of who made it you must choose a tire for the particular type of driving conditions you will be driving in. If you chose an all weather tire then that tire will only be partiallyefficientt in dry, wet and snowy conditionsbecausee they are trying to cover so many conditions. Tough choice for you. personally if I were you and I lived in an area which gets snow once a week I would buy a set ofstuddedd snow tires for the traction power wheels of my vehicle. They can`t be beat in 6 to 8 inches of snow. On the other hand if I got very little snow but a lot of rain, then I would go for an allweatherr tire during the winter months. What ever you choose remember this. Any conditions other than desert dry cause a loss of traction irregardless of what tire you have on your car, and you need to slow down for those conditions

since there is a variation in the climate condition s there i recomend that you go ahead with the use of winter tyres which is built for it

All - Season tires are a compromise. They work well in most conditions. They are not the greatest in any. Winter tires are optimized for the conditions. They may also be studded for better grip in icy conditions.
Considering your location, and the car, I would say it would be better to run winter tires.

I live in the lake erie snowbelt we average 100 inches of snow a season I run nothing but all season with good tread. A lot depends on your driving skill so hone them<

Where do you live? if you have a lot of heavy snow and most of the time your road is going to be ice, winter tires without a doubt, but if you just have a few snow days here and there then i would suggest the all season tires because they will give you better handling when its just a little wet or dry.

if you live where there is a lot of snow go with the winter
if you live where there is more ice than snow go with all season

i guess it would be safer to get the all season tires. but if the car has traction control and you r an extant driver i would stay with summer tires.
