My cars wrecked by someone else and I forged a signature on an insurance check...

So I was 18 and just got my license. My sister, a pharmacist, gives me her old pt cruiser. I would say it could blue book about 3 grand, given it's condition. I sign the title and my mother immediately takes it from me, saying I'll lose it. I drive it around for a year and the time comes to get stickers for it. I still don't have a new title, mother never gave me new plates. Both my mother and sister had moved two hours away and dont have time to 'deal' with me. I'm a bit of a black sheep, not wanting to be a doctor but a model, hair dyed blond and all. My mother accuses me of lying and denies ever taking the title from me in the first place. So I don't bother finding out whether the title is in my name or not, I just get stickers with her old registration. I could not even afford a new title back then, and didn't want to admit i was driving a car around that wasn't mine if that was the case. The girl looks over my I.D., doesn't notice the name difference, but put my then current address on the new registration. Then, the next year, the economy has crashed and I end up letting a good friend use the car to go back and forth to work with. Times are hard for a lot of the kids just getting on their feet. This person, disregarding the speed limit and the person cutting him off, ends up wrecking and totaling the car, with myself in the passenger seat(so much for 'good friend'). The damage to the other car was much worse, they ran into a house and the porch came crashing down on their little jetta. Everyone was thankfully alright. About a week after the accident, this person stopped answering my phone calls, and was unreachable by my lawyer, by anyone. My insurance company said that my coverage terminated the morning before the accident. The guy driving had no insurance either which was news to me. By some miracle, they decided it was the other drivers fault we wrecked. His insurance was, in my lawyers words, barely a step above the mob however. In the meantime, the people who live at my old address (the one the car is still registered to) whom are also friends of mine, forward on some ipass violation notices to me. The guy using my car had been going through the ipass lane every day without a transponder. I call in to try and settle the matter, and end up spending an hour discussing with one of their supervisors about the situation I was in. They could not help me because, surprise surprise, the title had indeed never been sent in and was still in my sisters name. She tells me all that would have to be done is add the car to her account, and all that would be owed is the actual cost of the toll. So I phone my mother (my sister doesn't carry a cell phone...yea...really) and ask that we meet, perhaps over dinner, so I can discuss this with both her and my sister. My mother replies with how both of them are just so busy and perhaps in a few weeks. So a few months after that a settlement check is ready, but a piece of paper needs to be signed, by my sister, to receive the check, made out to my sister. I call my mother again and she asks me to come the next day. My mother and I arrive at the restaurant before my sister does, and she insists that I give her the ipass papers for her to talk to my sister about, at a time when she is 'able to handle it better. I smell the familiar opium perfume covering the distinct marijuana stench on her clothes and start to refuse, which is met by her voice rising until I hastily give in. She then tells my sister when she's seated at our table that all she has to do is sign the papers in my hand and she gets the check! I immediately begin to object but my sister beat me to the punch, falling over herself to say how much it would come in handy. I leave the place with a bad taste in my mouth, knowing that with the title in my sisters name, I had utterly been handed the shit end of the stick. When the check was finally sent out, however, it was sent to my lawyer, whom passed it on to me. She knew where it was going to end up, and urged me to convince my sister to give me a portion, if not all of it. I start discussing later that day (again with my mother, with my sister being 'unreachable' by me, and I am met with nastiness, threats, and disdain. After the phone call, in a fury, I forge my sisters signature, and throw it into a checking account. I knew it was a felony, seeing red I didn't care. I'm sure if I just give the $ back to her no harm no foul, but both her and my mother are the type of people who would love nothing more than to see their thinner, taller, blond family member behind bars, regardless if they ever saw the check again. I know there's nothing much more to do now than wait for a court date, but if anyone can show me where I have a leg to stand on, that would be great.
