Your friend is facing serious charge & a pretty hefty fine. His parents will probably see an increase on their insurance premiums also.

All newly licensed first-time drivers in Michigan are placed on probation for at least three years. The probationary licensing program is a way for the Secretary of State to monitor their driving performance.
Probation and GDL are independent programs that work together to control a teenâ€™s driving risk.
Teen drivers under probation with tickets or crashes on their
records may face personal reviews called driver assessment reexaminations.
These reexaminations may cause a teenâ€™s license to be restricted, suspended or both. Should this occur, a teenâ€™s advancement to the next level of GDL will be delayed.

So he could face sanctions/restrictions on his GDL, a suspension or having his probationary period extended further.

If suspended, he could see anything from 30 days (best case scenario) to until he turns 18, possibly even 21 (worst case scenario).

If this is the first time he's been in trouble with the police & the first citation he has received on his GDL, the judge may cut him some slack. It will all depend on his attitude in front of the judge, how his parents respond & the mood of the judge that day.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN is that his parents take away his driving privileges for 6 months.....doin' 55 in a 25 is just plain stupid.

Besides the speeding ticket, he could also be charged with "Reckless Driving" (anything over 15 MPH above the speed limit - at least most places).

his license will be suspended. my frien in ohio got stopped for going 75 in a 55 and got his taken away for 30 days and that was over a year after getting license

well here in florida doubling the speed limit is a sure trip to JAIL!!! you get arrested for 2x over... much as i hate to say, i hope he gets his DL taken away for at least a year. at 16 he/she had no business driving like a fool. all i can say is good luck and please drive sensibly. there are innocent people out there and driving is a learned skill. at 16 this person has no real experience in a panic situation and will end up a cross on the right of way if they aren't careful.
LEARN to drive when you're young, then get a fast car and take it to the track later in life.

Ok, here is what will happen. Your "friend"...(yeah..wink.wink. we got it)..... will get a slap on the wrist from the court. This is because his parents will hold the police department/DMV responsible because if they hadn't issued him a license in the first place he wouldn't be in this situation. Furthermore, the gall of some beat cop doing his job is just reprehensible! How dare he cite that poor child. Regardless, the child will drive crazy again..and soon, with or without a license... and he will kill someone. Yes, that is what is going to happen.
