Nerous about my driving lessons?

Im going to start my first ever driving lessons this sunday. Im quite nervous. Is there anything I should know about before getting into that drivers seat? Also ways to be calm while doing it?

Really Nervous!!!!!

Andy, my complements on a great answer.
Situational Awareness needs to be drummed into the head of every single driver and rider on the road. So many are just clueless or so inattentive or so uncaring.

I will give you two pieces of advise given to me by my Dad.
"Leave yourself and out"
"Always be THINKING, what if......"
No auto accidents in 30 plus years of driving. Thanks, Dad!!

Don't worry! You'll be fine. I still remember my first driver's education lesson-to this day-VIVIDLY! They picked me up in an old 1987 Dodge Aries. What a filthy piece of...umm....crap! The driver's ed. teacher was too cheap to get a decent car. What's wrong with a Taurus or something that's a couple years old? Right? Anyway, when I went for my lesson, we went on some back country roads early in the morning. Hopefully, the teacher will take you on some roads that aren't busy. Hopefully, it's early in the morning as well. Hence, less traffic.

I think that is why driver's ed usually has driving lessons on Sundays. I recall going on many Sundays. Again, less traffic. Moreover, try to look ahead when you're driving. Remember, when you learned to ride a bicycle as a kid? You probably looked down at the pavement directly in front of you. And, you'll probably do the same thing when you first get behind the driver's seat. Look ahead! Look ahead! Check your rearview mirrors/sideview mirrors frequently. This keeps you alert, and invariably, helps you maintain "SA" or situational awareness. Situational Awareness is something that fighter pilots and ship's officers swear by. It basically means, be alert and on the lookout of everything around you. In this case, be on the lookout for pedestrians that are getting ready to cross the road, children on bicycles, emergency vehicles. You get the point.

You'll do fine. Good luck and have a good time. Remember, driving is an acquired skill. It takes time.

P.S. Once you get some experience 'under your belt', pay attention to commercial drivers (truckers, motorcoach operators, etc.). They tend to signal a lot and are always on the lookout for other drivers. I always try to emulate their behaivor because they're professionals, right?

no, its actually not too bad once you start going. Have your mom or dad take you out to a parking lot just to get the feel. Just think about it, complete idiots know how to drive, so you should be fine.
