In most States, you are considered to be on probation for a period of time right after first obtaining your license.

In NY, a brand new license is considered to be "on probation" for the 1st 6-months after getting it. If a new driver were to get a speeding infraction in that time frame, after being convicted he/she would be suspended for 6 months.

As for accidents, it depends on the particulars of the accident. If the new driver was found at fault due to carelessness or negligence or some type of reckless action then they could be suspended as well.
