Find answers to your legal question.

Ok your on a 3 lane roundabout wanting the 4th exit...?

On approach you enter the roundabout in the right hand lane and when clear go into the inside lane of the Island. After you pass the second exit, you indicate and drift into the middle lane, pass the 3rd exit indicate and again drift into the outside lane ready for your 4th exit............any cars that may be in the outside lane will give way to me as im indicating left and ill just fit in nicely into the traffic flow because the guy behind would have given me way to drift in.The give way to the right rule covers this, even when your going round....... is this correct?? If they don't give me way to drift in to take the exit, round again we go?? rather than go into there drivers side or cut them up??? Im just double checking this as im new to the road....

OK there is no real way of knowing without actually seeing the roundabout, as I don't know at the moment how many lanes there are on any of the exits, small side roads, or major dual carriageways, which exit is the "road ahead"? We don't know if there are any markings or signs on approach, or on the roundabout, or if there are any lines guiding you from one lane to another etc etc so it is fairly impossible to let you know what is the correct thing to do. Could you say the road names so I can look on google earth?!

One thing I would suggest, is I wouldn't recommend signaling left on the roundabout in order to move from lane 4 to lane 3 - a left signal would confuse people entering the roundabout into thinking you were exiting the 3rd exit.

Regarding giving way to the right, this does NOT apply to traffic NEXT to you on a roundabout, if you are in lanes then stay in that lane, if you want to change lanes YOU have to give way to the other drivers in the lane you wish to enter.

send us a postcode or similar so can check it out!

If you are using the 4th exit, you:

Enter the roundabout in the right hand lane, whilst indicating right.
Keep to the centre of the roundabout, still indicating right.
Only indicate left, and move towards the exit AFTER you have passed the third exit. Not before.
Indicating left before the third exit will make other drivers think you are about to turn off BEFORE the 4th exit.

You would have been taught this when you learnt to drive.

I'm slightly confused with this, I'm assuming since you said middle lane, the roundabout is marked, with marked roundabouts/lanes, I tend to follow them, no need to indicate that you are moving lanes, I only indicate when I'm exiting the roundabout.

I think I need to actually do it to answer that. Know what I mean?

Assuming the 4th exit is further round than "straight on", your description accurately represents what should happen.
One exception is when the lanes approaching the roundabout are marked with the intended destination. In this case, pick the correct lane on approach and follow any other markings around the roundabout. In the case of traffic lights on the island, you may find it much more difficult to change lane, so you may find it preferable to move into the middle lane earlier and the same for your move to the outer lane.
If you do find yourself unable to move into the outer lane in time for your exit, then it is safest to go round again - but make sure you time your moving out sooner this time!
