PROBLEM WITH TURN SIGNALS?

I HAVE A FORD F150. WHEN I USE MY RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL WITHOUT MY LIGHTS ON THEY WORK, BUT WHEN I TURN THE LIGHTS ON THEY STOP WORKING. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM HERE? THANKS

It sounds like there is a problem with the ground on one of the lights on the right side of the vehicle. When the lights are off, the circuit is grounding through the lights. When there is power to the lights, there is no ground and the turn signals do not work.
Check to be sure that all mounting screws are in and tight and look for a lose ground wire. This could be in the front or the rear. If you can not find the problem, you can splice a ground wire into the harness and connect it to the truck body to solve the problem |

More than likely a problem in the :Christmas Tree" -- (apt for this time of year, no?) -- or the apparatus that the turn signal itself is connected to.. Could also be a short in the wiring harness between the light switch/turn signal switch and the controlling panel / relay.
Your best bet would be bringing it in to a service department.. Unless you want to buy a volt meter and probe, a detailed schematic of the wiring system of the truck, and a lot of time probing individual points along the wire path seeing when the short occurs.
That's the only way to be sure -- probing the wires, and seeing exactly where the short occurs, because yes, you do have a short. It's not the bulb if it works with one set of wiring but not the other. It's all about determining where the short happens, in order to fix what's causing it. |
