Paranoid about fast-approaching winter...?

Well, I just heard it was supposed to snow this weekend, so I guess I'm starting to freak out a little now that winter is becoming a reality lol...I'm 28 1/2 weeks pregnant, due January 14th. I live in Iowa, so we have some tough winters - last year we had tons of ice storms. I'm a clumsy person in general, and have fallen on the ice at least once every hear, so naturally I'm terrified that I'm going to fall this year while late in pregnancy. I'm also a large woman, so I'm worried about the extra weight as well as just the fall. In my nervousness I started looking up shoes with better traction, but what I've found are these ice/snow aids: http://www.ajprindle.com/products/sku-11... has anyone heard of or tried anything like this before, and if so, would you recommend them? Another thing I'm worried about is getting into a car accident/fender bender, since three people ran into me last year...Last year all 3 times there were no damage so we just left the scene and moved on. But, being pregnant, what steps should I be taking (damage or no damage) if this does happen? I know I would need to call my doctor, but if when I get out to look there's no damage, is it fine to just leave the scene and then go to the drs? Obviously I'm a first time mom, and very paranoid...we're also moving this December, so that doesn't help the winter-worrying much. Any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Those things look kind of flimsy. I think you'd be better off getting some good winter boots through Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's (sp?)
Try not to worry too much. Your body is designed to protect your unborn baby. As long as there's no direct blows to your torso or abdomen, your baby should be okay.
As far as winter driving goes, I can't really give advice on that as I'm scared of that myself. All I can really say on that subject is only get out in it if you have to, and then just be careful. Make sure you have chains on your tires and maintain your vehicle for safety, the same as if you weren't pregnant. If you're in an accident, you still have to wait for the officer to come and file his/her traffic report but go to the doctor right after. |

When driving while pregnant:
1. Wear your seatbelt. Wear it properly, across your waste. Do not wear it across you abdomen, as some persons incorrectly do.
2. Adjust the seat position as far down and back as you can without compromising your ability to reach the brake and the steering wheel (this is to keep your uterus as far from the airbag as possible).
3. Treat a minor accident, in which you are not jolted, and know of the collision only because you hear it, normally.
4. If any accident is serious enough that police or paramedics come, be sure to tell them that you are pregnant as soon as they arrive. |

they look quite good...atleast your asking for advice....
me,personally dont go out unless its nessasary.ask others to help you out...always takesome one with you...if you have to go out wear thick gloves and if possable a padded motorbike jacket...most have exellent protection in the sholders,elbows and back area....good luck of your fist kid....they say the first 17 years is the worst! |
