In law you have no absolute right to park in front of your house. So you cannot prevent them from parking there.
The only 'right' that you have is access to and egress from your property. Therefore, if the cars block, or partially obstruct your driveway in a way that makes entry and exit hazardous, you can ask the police to see about "moving them on".
Some people put cones, boxes or bins in the road to 'reserve' their parking place. This is itsef an offence (obstructing the public highway) and could result in you being fined and having a criminal record - having a rant at the police or magistrate will only make it worse so don't do that.
The best thing you could do if it really bothers you is to have a word with the headteacher and see if they can make their staff use the school car park. Note that, because of financial concerns, they may not have a big enough car park. |

the street is public, only if there blocking the driveway can you complain. |

As long as they are not blocking access to your property (e.g. a driveway) and there is no double yellows there is nothing you can do. A public highway, is first come first served basis. |

If there are no parking restrictions and they are not blocking any access points then nothing can be done. |

bit more info please...have you got a drive that they are blocking you from accessing? |

no...sorry but the 'highway' is for the flow of traffic only, it makes no allowance for parking other than in those areas the highway code regards as dangerous. no one has any right to actually 'park' anywhere, and certainly, no one has any more right to be in a particular area than any one else even outside their own home :( |

you need a run-up and drive to have any rights. You don't own the pavement and road outside your house |

Have you tried speaking to the Headmaster? If you dont feel comfortable with that, you could always write to the school. If that doesnt work, let their tyres down. |

my parents used to have the same problem. what they did was borrow (steal) some road work cones and then put 3 of them on the road, where they would park, to stop other people parking there when your not there. I dont think its legal, but it does work.
hope that helps |

Contact the school, why don't they have a parking lot? Can't you park there before they show up for school? Don't they leave after school? Get a job teaching at the school maybe. I am just kidding, I would call the school and *itch and moan. Or leave nails and thick shards of glass there if you get really pissed off.
Then you could at least smile at them when they park in your spot, give em a friendly wave and keep smiling all day long!!
Now I wish I lived there!!!! |
