Parts of the car (on the safety inspection list) what are these parts i have listed?

i am learning to safety cars, because i can make a little money at it. also i just want to know how, i have a list here, the certificate of inspection, but im not sure what all of these parts are, anybody know?

1) Nuetral Safety Switch
2) Brake Failure Indicators (are they just on the dash like the engine light?)
3) Brake Pedal Reserve
4) Steering Lash & Travel
5) Parking Lamps
6) Reflex Reflectors
7) Steering Column Coupler
8) Wheel Cylinders
9) Proportioning Valve

thats all the ones that i dont know, that were on this list, the other

1. the thing that stops the shift bar from moving into gear. It's usually a push button.
2. yes, they're on the dash
3. the amount left to go when you push the brake pedal down as far as it can go. You should be able to stick your foot behind it between the back of the pedal and the firewall.
4. how much play in the steering wheel.
5. You know, parking lights. They're the yellow ones.
6. reflectors on the sides and within the light covers. (I think)

Wow ! I would like to know where you can safety a vehicle without being a licensed automotive technician? If you don`t know what any of those items are on a vehicle , how can you possibly write out a safety inspection certificate? I feel really sorry for anybody that gets a safety from you. Do you even know the min thickness for brake pads and shoes? Do you even have a hoist ? Tools? This is someones life you are playing with. If you screw up and they get into an accident , you can and will be held responsible if it is a mechanical issue that you allowed to get by . Backyard safeties are the most dangerous type , and any reputable garage will not allow clowns to do this. I really hope you are joking about doing a safety inspection on anything other than a kids wagon. PS Kate. #1 is the switch that only allows the engine to start in park or neutral, parking lamps are red ,turn signals may be yellow, #7 is the part that actually connects the steering column to the steering box/rack, and a proportioning valve is what limits the brake pressure between the front and rear brakes , otherwise if the pressure was egual ,the back wheels would lock up under normal braking. But at least you got most of them correct, better than our future safety inspector did .
