Patched tire safe?

I lost a lot of air in my front tire today on the freeway and fortunately a road side service man was able to refill it with air but suggested I get it looked at. I went to a tire place and they patched the puncture (they think it was a nail). My question is if its safe to drive regularly now or should I invest in a totally new tire. Thanks.

It must be safe, or should be, if they repaired it. Usually they won't repair a nail hole, unless it is in the tread, that thick part on top of the tire. If it was in the sidewall, best to replace the tire. That is the weakest part of the tire.
However if you have any doubts replace it they aren't terribly expensive, and you know what it is like, to have it go flat on you.

I agree with john693

if the tire is in overall good condition a properly applied patch is very safe

In case it is tubeless tire the plug repair is OK. Patch repair any where on the sole or side is temporary repair and one need to drive cautiously till replaced by a correct type tire

As long as it holds air it's fine. If you need a new tire you will develop a slow leak and then you will know that you need to replace that tire.

Just drive and watch your tire pressure in all your tires.
Maybe someone took the air out of your tire and there was nothing wrong with the tire at all. The roadside boy has to say that to you by law.Chicks always get the shaft when it comes to car maintance-Good Luck and watck the 'mechanics'
Women get it by men one way or another!

A patched tire is only a temporary "fix"...you need to invest in new tires.
