Looking at your additional info, the only blue warning light on the dash is for headlight main beam - the rear fog light warning is orange. I would agree with the rest & suggest either it is your fog lights left on, or your brake lights are stuck on. Get out of the car, walk round the back & check.

Sometimes car rear lights develop an interesting earthing fault. The common symptom is that when the driving lights are on and you press the brake pedal one of the lights goes out. Sometimes all the lights will flash oddly when you operate the indicator.

The thing about this type of fault is that it only shows when you have the tail lights on. Operating the brakes or indicators during daylight will not show a fault.

You must get someone to stand behind the car and see what happens when you try Every Combination of lights.

You could have had your lights on full beam without realising, or you could have had your fog lights on (very annoying). Get someone to help you check your break and indicator lights at lunch time today, so that you have time to replace and bulbs that might have gone. If you've had one break light go, then more current will be passing through the other light and that is more likely to go as well.

Or it could be that as they were driving over bumps it looked like they were flashing you.

Most of the time if you are pulled over by the police and a bulb has gone, then they will simply let you know and say that you should get them changed as soon as possible.

I think that you turned your light switch round too far and accidentally put on your fog light. This can be really distracting for other road users. Check this out, if this not it then maybe you have a light out and they are letting you know.

This could be a number of problems such as your tires were flat but surely you would be able to find that out. Another reason why could be that your rear light weren't on or if they were on, one of them was broken.

Get someone to help you check your rear lights....... Was there a warning light on the dash?

Rear fog lights? What are those? Chances are your taillights weren't on even though your headlights were; that could be failed bulbs, a blown fuse, any number of causes. Get them checked.

It's easy to check your tail- and brake lights--I do it every chance I get. Use a plate glass store window, the chrome trim on the car behind you or something similar. If you can see them reflected there, you're OK.

Without a doubt you are that annoying sod in front of me with rear fog lights on dazzling us all...

You should not be allowed on the road.

If stopped by the police it's Driving Without due Care and Attention 3 points and a fine..
